On Thursday, October 8th from 6 PM to 10 PM, the 8th Annual Sunset Strip Billboard Awards (SSBA, www.billboardawards.com) will take place on the rooftop of the Andaz West Hollywood hotel on historic Sunset Boulevard in the “Creative City” of West Hollywood, CA. The Andaz hotel looks out over the Sunset Strip, which is second only to Times Square as the most valuable media outdoor advertising opportunity in the nation. These ads are often the industries most cutting edge, innovative and controversial ads in the country.

Founded in 2000, the SSBA honors innovative excellence, ingenuity, and originality in outdoor advertising. The actual awards are known as “Strippers” cleverly named to thematically associate to the boulevard’s nickname of “The Strip” and is attended by advertising agencies, billboard company executives, art directors, writers, creative directors, and celebrities. The celebration bestows these “Strippers” to the creative architects of this powerful, ever-changing medium.

This annual celebration is hosted by the West Hollywood Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the Sunset Strip Business Association, Ad Week magazine, Outdoor Advertising Association of America, Inc, MacDonald Media, and the West Hollywood Marketing & Visitors Bureau. The West Hollywood Chamber of Commerce supports the outdoor media businesses and speaks on both city and state levels of government as an advocate and endorses businesses that wish to develop, sustain and grow, while remaining responsible to the needs of its community, city and state’s infrastructure and ecology standards. 2009 is an exceptional example of when it is vital for the Chamber, along with partnerships from coast to coast, to step up and face the economic challenges we face today. “The West Hollywood Chamber of Commerce is excited to present the newly re-visioned Sunset Strip Billboard Awards,” said Sharon Sandow, President and CEO of the Chamber. “We support the outdoor industry and the creativity which has been brought into West Hollywood with the unique use of billboards. Billboards are a part of the landscape of the Sunset Strip, and we are continuing our tradition of honoring and supporting great creativity by the outdoor community.”

Rick Robinson the West Coast GM/National Creative Director for MacDonald Media, has put together an esteemed panel of judges who will rank all entries based on creativity and strength of original concept, overall art direction and implementation.
